Houseasaurus is a non-profit housing cooperative located at 833 W. College Ave* in State College, Pennsylvania. We are a proud member of NASCO, the North American Student of Cooperation organization.
Our members include undergraduates, grad students, and non-students alike. We strive to uphold our shared values in the house and the surrounding community: social responsibility, environmental sustainability, queer positivity, diversity promotion, and egalitarianism. These four pillars are the common ground on which we base our decisions, which we make by consensus.
Houseasaurus often cooks vegan- and vegetarian-friendly foods. We love to recycle, we think composting is a cool way to avoid food waste, we’re not afraid of dumpstering, and we’ve sucessfully maintained a vegetable garden for a few years.
If you want to learn more about us and our home, please join us for dinner Sunday through Thursday at 7 o’clock! Send us an e-mail to say you’re coming and we’ll be more than happy to give you a (probably) delicious meal. House meetings are held Sundays after dinner and are open to the community as well.
In addition to dinners, all are welcome to join our Community Café workshops held most Fridays at 6PM. Sometimes we discuss pertinent social topics, sometimes we host musicians, and sometimes we just relax and create art. For more information on our events, check out our Community Café’s Facebook page.
Houseasaurus is always hungry for new members! If you want to apply to live at Houseasaurus, the application can be accessed here. Applicants can talk to us about joining the co-op for a semester, an academic year (two semesters), or just for the summer. Applications are processed on a rolling basis. You can drop off a hard copy at the house, or you can email it to PAcommunityhousing@gmail.com.
*Please note that at the end of this summer (2017) we will be moving to a new location — more information to come!
